Coffee protects the liver
People who drink coffee may reduce their risk of liver cancer but the reason why is not known. Results showed that there was a 41 percent reduction in the risk of liver cancer in those who drank coffee as opposed to those that didn't. Low to moderate coffee drinkers (less than 3 cups per day for example) had a 30 percent less chance of liver cancer compared to those that did not drink coffee. It appears that certain components of coffee can protect the liver by blocking harmful enzymes that help in the development of cancer. It appears that coffee drinking can also lower the risk of cirrhosis of the liver and chronic liver disease which in themselves are risk factors for liver cancer. There were about 600,000 deaths from liver cancer in 2002.
Drinking coffee can also protect the memory capacity in women, researchers have found.
