Coffee does not make you alert
It has come to the attention of the British Nutrition Foundation that Coffee does not actually make you more aware after drinking large quantities. A study was conducted on coffee drinkers who drink regularly and ultimately it concluded that regular caffeine consumption (from coffee) does not in fact make you more alert. Only those who have taken long breaks from the drinks, meaning more than a few months, actually received a type of buzz from it. Although many people say that drinking coffee wakes them up in the morning, it really isn't the coffee doing it, but the person's own mindset. Those who consume coffee regularly have the same alertness level of those who never or have ever drank coffee in their life.
In fact, the only thing that coffee drinkers experience when drinking another coffee drink is the same experience that drug users have when ending a withdrawal, which gives the impression of being alert.
This doesn't mean that it doesn't have other beneficial qualities. Coffee does help the mind and helps prevent Alzheimer's disease in the elderly. It helps to keep the mind sharp although not any more alert.
Try not taking your coffee one morning and compare your alertness levels between the two.
