Some tools of the coffee trade

If you truly are a coffee enthusiast, you'll be one of the few who actually grinds and fixes their own coffee rather than those who simply pour in the pre-made packaging mix. It's the mark of a gourmet but it can't be achieved without some basic bits and bobs. So here are some basic items you might want to look into for your Joe hobby.

First thing you're going to want to invest your money in is a coffee grinder.  Just a typical steel coffee grinder will get the job done. It doesn't have to be fancy. The whole idea of it is to unlock the freshness and taste right before you start to make the coffee.  If you buy it pre-ground, it loses some of its zaz.

Depending on your lifestyle, you might want to buy a single-cup coffee maker if you're on the go or a more traditional multi-cup maker if serve friends and family as well...or drink a lot of coffee.  Just make sure you find a clean working one with a good warranty as accidents do happen.  Make sure you have strong filters as well otherwise you might drink more than you wanted.

The best temperature to have your water at before you add the beans is around 200F.  This is extremely hot and shouldn't be drunk at this temperature but it will mix well with the coffee and bring out the taste more.
